HEALTH IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION

Close your eyes and envision your ideal healthy self. What comes to mind? Chances are you picture yourself feeling and looking good. You might imagine having energy to invest in your work, family, relationships, and hobbies. You feel good and can be fully present in all aspects of your life.

It can be daunting to imagine all the ways we’d like to improve our health. I don’t know about you, but my list is pretty long. If I think about trying to implement everything on my list all at once, it makes me feel like it’s never going to happen and I shouldn’t even bother trying.

One Step at a Time

Instead, think of your health as a journey. On a journey you take things one step at a time. It’s a process with many twists and turns. There are lots of factors that come into play, some expected, some unexpected. We have to plan for things to be ever-changing.

This is precisely why we shouldn’t think of health as a destination. If health is a destination, it means our lives are static and stationary, which we know is never the case.

Pick One Thing

So rather than trying to do everything all at once, pick one thing that you can do today. Can you do it again tomorrow? And the next day? For the rest of the week? Pretty soon this new thing is a habit. And then you can repeat the process with the next small step.

It’s all about taking small steps to develop your healthy, extraordinary life.
